Huang Dan: ITP Relapse After Splenectomy Cured by TCM
Case Summary
Patient: Huang Dan, female, 34 years old
Diagnosis: Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), post-splenectomy relapse
History: Diagnosed with ITP in 2018. After failed steroid therapy, underwent splenectomy in 2019. Platelets initially recovered but dropped again within 3 months post-surgery. Referred to our hospital for TCM treatment.
TCM Treatment
Pattern identified as qi failing to control blood with blood heat. Treatment strategy: tonify qi to hold blood, cool blood to stop bleeding, and regulate immune function.
After 1 month, platelet count rose from 15x10^9/L to 45x10^9/L. After 3 months, reached 80x10^9/L. After 6 months of treatment, stabilized above 100x10^9/L.
Outcome
Platelets have remained stable above 100x10^9/L for over 18 months without steroid use. No bleeding episodes.
