Wang Haoyang: 9-Month-Old Baby with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia Recovers
Case Summary
Patient: Wang Haoyang, male, 9 months old
Diagnosis: Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA)
History: A 9-month-old infant presenting with severe pallor, jaundice, and failure to thrive. Diagnosed with AIHA with hemoglobin as low as 45g/L. Steroid treatment caused significant side effects in the infant. Parents sought gentler TCM approach.
TCM Treatment
Pattern: congenital insufficiency with damp-heat蕴结 (accumulation). Gentle treatment approach: strengthen spleen and nourish blood, clear damp-heat, using mild herbal formulas suitable for infants.
After 2 months, hemoglobin rose to 75g/L. After 4 months, reached 95g/L. Jaundice resolved. After 6 months, hemoglobin stabilized at 110g/L.
Outcome
The baby is now growing normally with age-appropriate development milestones. Hemoglobin remains stable without steroid dependence.
